Does Bee make Dems nervous?

The attacks that the Arizona Democratic Party have waged against Senate President Tim Bee are beginning to take national notice. In a recent article published in Roll Call, the AZ-D’s have said they are having their attorney look into the matter of whether or not Bee’s exploratory committee is legal - which it is.

Another article from The Politco puts some light on the matter that Democrats should be more concerned with:

One Arizona Democratic operative said the strategy to attack Bee before he officially enters the race could backfire.

“Why do Democrats keep giving free stories to Tim Bee, raising his profile and making people think they’re scared of him?” the operative said. “Why not encourage him to stay in his very busy role as state Senate president?”

The truth of what is going on is that the Democrats are afraid of Senator Bee. They know that the potential candidacy of Bee is threatening because he is known as a consensus-builder, and has high favorability among Republicans, Independents, and even Democrats. The fact that Giffords has gone to Washington with a disregard for her campaign promise of bi-partisan partnership is not going to be quickly forgotten by voters. Instead they’ll turn to Senator Bee who has proven he can reach across the aisle to his Democratic colleagues and form common-sense policy.

Something interesting as well, is that Tedski over at RRR has accused Bee for his exploratory site www.timbee.com being currently blank. While we would all like to see Bee’s site complete, isn’t a bit hypocritical for Tedski, a Democratic Party activist to lash out at the Senator when his state party has been accusing Tim of doing too much in the exploratory phase?

But by that same notion, shouldn’t Tedski and the AZ-D’s be going after Governor Janet Napolitano for forming a Federal PAC that has thus far raised over $41,000? No one is going to form a federal political action committee without the intention of using it to advance yourself into a federal office. So why should Janet be allowed to raise money for what many expect to be her run for the U.S. Senate in 2010, while still being Governor of Arizona? According to the justification that the Dems are using to attack Bee, she shouldn’t be able too.

Boy, if the Dems are going nuts over Bee’s blank exploratory committee website, then Gabby is going to be sweating bullets once it is completed and Tim has declared his candidacy.

A message was sent to The Arizona Watchtower today from an undisclosed sender outlining many ethical questions concerning Congressman Raul Grijalva. It explains why Pima Democrats are now in a frenzy over Gene Chewning, Grijalva’s challenger for 2008, airing TV ads that highlight the Congressman’s ethical dilemmas.

The House of Grijalva may be showing cracks.

Another General

David Petraeus will soon see a fellow four-star elected to Congress from Massachusetts. College administrator Niki Tsongas, the widow of the late Senator Paul Tsongas, won a commanding primary victory in the Bay State yesterday. The special election is being held to find a replacement for Congressman Marty Meehan who resigned a few months back.

The most interesting thing, however, about Tsongas’s win is what she said in her victory speech, “The selection is a referendum on the presidency of George W. Bush. If you want to end the war in Iraq, join me and send a message to the White House.”

I had not realized that being a one-term Congresswoman, from a district that hasn’t elected a Republican to represent it since 1973, would give you the power to change the course of American foreign policy, not to mention, shift the opinions of the Commander-in-Chief. Funny how every Democrat being elected to Congress these days thinks that once they are sworn in they’ll be given an officers uniform with a couple of stars attached to the shoulders.

Congressman Franks in Europe

On Monday, September 3rd, Congressman Trent Franks delivered a powerful message to the 2007 Multinational Ballistic Missile Defense Conference in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The purpose of this conference was to discuss the proposed missile-shield for Poland and the Czech Republic to be built by the United States.

Congressman Franks address to the conference attendees was in favor of the shield, which he said would be used to block a missile attack on the U.S. or Europe from Iran or a Jihadist organization. Franks gave a strong tribute to President Ronald Reagan and how hard he fought for missile defense against the Soviet Union. Franks makes note that though the Cold War is over, the free world still faces the threat of a nuclear attack from radical regimes and terrorist networks.

Franks also said to Russia in his address to let Poland and the Czech Republic decide for themselves whether or not they want the silo (Poland) and radar (Czech) to be placed on their soil. Russia is merely saber rattling in their protest to the shield, and are nostalgic for the days of Soviet power when the nations of Eastern Europe could be strong-armed by Moscow. But he also challenged Russia to build a better shield if they did not like the current one being proposed.

Probably the funniest thing that Congressman Franks said in his address was the following:

Some of you may have met a few of the dissenting voices in Congress who propose technical alternatives that are no more than PowerPoint slides and have very significant cost, schedule and performance issues. Their idea may to be to delay this effort in case a Democrat is elected in the next American presidential election. Ladies and Gentlemen, if a Democrat is elected President in the United States, it is the end of the world and none of this will matter anyway.

Just kidding… the truth is that this missile defense system is important enough to America and the world and has enough congressional support that I believe even under a Democrat president, it would continue to go forward.

Congressman Franks delivered a strong argument for the proposed anti-missile shield, and Arizona and America should feel fortunate to have such a strong and well-versed person fighting for such policy.

Senate President Tim Bee’s District 30 campaign website has officially been converted into his Congressional Exploratory Committee page. There is not much too it yet, it says that everything will be ‘Coming Soon’. But you can see what it will have once it is up and running.

The sooner the better. We need Tim.

The Arizona Senate President

The following is an article that appeared in the July 2007 issues of the National Conference of State Legislatures Magazine. It details the daily work of Arizona Senate President Tim Bee.

The NCSL is a bi-partisan organization, and has said that the Senate President “is hands down one of the most well-liked leaders in the country.” This of course comes from Tim’s easy going nature, and “hands-off” style of leadership that has enabled him to work in a bi-partisan matter. Such a skill is rare these days in Arizona or national politics, and its a refreshing quality that national leaders have seen in Tim.
